The fall anime season is in full swing, bringing us over 69 new anime to dive into! Among the excitement, romantic anime stands out this season with a fantastic blend of classic tropes, fresh plots, and surprising twists. In this list, I’ll go over all the new romance anime airing this fall — or should I say most of them, because I may have missed a few.
Murai in Love
Starting off with ”Murai in Love”, the anime follows a boy who’s in love with his teacher. Now, where have I heard this before? Anyway, Murai is a high schooler who’s in love with his teacher, Tanaka. Tanaka is a girl who’s never really been involved in any real-life romance, as she’s only in love with the characters in the games she plays. So when Murai asks her out one day, he’s quickly shut down because, honestly, who would date their student? Not taking no for an answer, Murai shows up the next day completely transformed into Tanaka’s favorite game character. Yeah, she’s done for.
Blue Box
Next up, we’ve got *Blue Box.* This anime is probably the most hyped romance anime of the season, and I can understand why. It mixes sports and romance — a nice combo. It follows Taiki, a boy on the badminton team. He tries to get as much practice in by getting to the gym early, but no matter how early he goes, there’s always a girl there before him, and that girl happens to be his crush and the rising star of the basketball team. Although Taiki has a crush on her, he won’t do anything about it because he doesn’t believe he’s good enough for her. You’d think the story ends there, but nope — by some twist of fate, she ends up living at his house, giving him the push he needs to train even harder to become worthy of her. His luck is insane. If he messes this up, I don’t know what to say.
365 Days to the Wedding
Next, we have *365 Days to the Wedding.* This anime already has a live-action adaptation, so if you don’t want to wait for weekly episodes, go ahead and watch that. Anyway, this anime follows a classic plot: two people faking a marriage to get out of something. But, of course, this is a romance anime, so they fall in love. The anime follows Ritsu and Takuya, both coworkers and lonely singles living boring lives at home. However, that all changes when their job announces they’ll be moving non-married staff out of Japan to a new office. To avoid getting transferred, Ritsu and Takuya agree to pretend to get married, even though they barely know each other. At first, they think it’ll be easy, but they’re wrong — they actually have to get closer to make it believable, which may lead to some romance.
Yakuza Fiancé
*Yakuza Fiancé* is probably going to be my favorite romance anime of the fall season. I think the plot is pretty interesting, although some people keep calling it a *Nisekoi* copy. I think that’s completely wrong, as they’re nothing alike. The anime follows Yoshino, a girl whose engagement is far from a dream come true. Because of her grandfather, the head of one of the largest Yakuza groups, she must marry Kirishima, the grandson of a leader of a rival group, as part of a truce agreement. This is where the similarities to *Nisekoi* end. Her new fiancé, while kind and charming on the outside, hides a dark and dangerous side. Let’s just say Yoshino’s life is about to get a lot more lively.
I’ll Become a Villainess Who Goes Down in History
Yep, another villainess anime. Who watches these? Well, I guess I do sometimes. After getting isekai’d by a sleepy truck driver, a girl is reincarnated as Alicia, the villain in her favorite fantasy dating sim. Now talk about crazy luck. Also, if you get reincarnated, do you just get sent to a game you played? I see that happen a lot. Anyway, knowing how the game ends, she wants to twist things to become the best villainess. However, each time she tries to be evil, the prince just falls more in love with her. It seems breaking Alicia’s fate won’t be so easy.
Tying the Knot with an Amagami Sister
Before you guys say anything, everyone sees the word “sister” and thinks this is an incest anime, but I can assure you it’s not. If you’re disappointed, well, I don’t know what to tell you. *Tying the Knot with an Amagami Sister* follows Kamihate, an orphan boy who dreams of completing medical school. After being taken in by a priest, those dreams seem within reach. However, when he arrives at his new foster home, a working shrine, his plans for a quiet place to study go up in flames, as it turns out he’ll be living with three beautiful sisters. Not only that, but he must marry one of them and take over the temple. I don’t think he’s completing medical school anytime soon.
TsumaSho
*TsumaSho,* or *If My Wife Becomes an Elementary School Student,* has a title that might scare you, but I promise it’s not a creepy anime (I think). Oh, and this one already has a live-action adaptation with great reviews, so if you want to watch that instead, go ahead. The story follows Kase, a man who has spent the last 10 years in grief after his wife passed away. His life has been nothing but gloomy, with his only family being his daughter. Though he wants her to be happy, he can’t do anything about it, as their bond ended when his wife passed. However, things take a turn when an elementary school girl shows up at their house, claiming to be the reincarnation of his wife, remembering everything about her past. After hearing that, you can either give it a chance or skip it altogether.
The Do-Over Damsel Conquers the Dragon Emperor
This anime is about a girl who gets sent back in time right before she dies, to the point where her fate was sealed. It follows Jotika after she escapes the cell her fiancé put her in. Unable to run away, Jotika jumps off a building, only to be speared down by her fiancé. However, before she dies, she wakes up six years in the past, before their engagement was decided. Wanting to change her fate, she proposes to the first man she sees, who turns out to be Hades, an enemy of hers in the future. At first, Jotika wants to retract her proposal, but after some thought, she goes through with it, determined not only to change her fate but his as well.
Nina the Starry Bride
*Nina the Starry Bride* is about an orphan girl who is bought by a prince and forced to take the place of a dead princess. Yeah, her life takes a wild turn. Nina’s been discarded her whole life, stealing to survive, but one day, she’s sold to Azure, the second prince of Fortna. He notices Nina’s eyes resemble the recently deceased Princess Alicia, so he orders her to take the princess’s place and marry the neighboring nation’s prince. Though this isn’t the life she planned, Nina’s just happy to finally be needed by someone. Aren’t we all?
How I Attended an All-Guy’s Mixer
This anime is actually pretty funny, as the guys are completely confused the whole time, especially the main character, who has no idea how he ended up in the situation. It follows college student Tokiya after he’s invited to a mixer by his female classmate Suou. He’s told to bring two of his friends, but when they arrive at the event, they’re shocked to see three handsome men instead of Suou and her friends. It turns out the three handsome men are actually Suou and her friends, who are cross-dressing for their jobs. Although Tokiya and his friends are confused, they decide to just go with it, leading Tokiya into a relationship he definitely didn’t plan for.
You Are Ms. Servant
*You Are Ms. Servant* is a comedy but does have some romance, at least in the manga. Yuki has followed orders her whole life, as being an assassin is all she’s ever known. But now she has a chance to leave her past behind. One day, she shows up at Hitoyoshi’s house, a high school boy who lives alone, asking to be his maid. At first, he refuses, but after she saves him from a moving truck, he has second thoughts and decides to take her in, starting Yuki’s journey of learning what it means to be normal.
Puniru is a Kawaii Slime
Finally, we have *Puniru is a Kawaii Slime.* It follows Puniru, a girl who’s a slime, and a boy named Kotaro. The two met when Kotaro was in elementary school and have been best friends ever since. Kotaro is now in middle school and has grown a lot, leading him to develop a crush on a girl at school, which low-key makes Puniru jealous. She, too, has grown and transformed into a cute girl, constantly changing form and acting crazy to get Kotaro’s attention. All she wants is for him to call her cute. I’m not going to lie, I was a little lost watching this anime — there’s just too much going on. Kotaro really needs to rethink his life choices, because why is his best friend a crazy slime girl?
